The Golden Guide

So you have a spare 1000 gold and you want to know what to spend it on, how about turning it into 2000 gold??

This golden guide is going to cover those that will risk the trading strategy ‘speculate to accumulate’.

Here comes the warning: This method will utilise the buying and selling of items on the auction house. Although the potential to make a lot of gold is there the potential to lose is just as high.

First you need a certain level of auction house mastery. As i’ve stated in earlier gold posts get the addon Auctioneer this is going to be crucial to this golden guide. Auctioneer is a suite that provides you with the tools and data necessary to make those difficult auctioning decisions with ease.

Before you continue with this article if you are new to Auctioneer then I suggest you go and have a play with it. Pay good attention to how it shows lists of items by bid and buyout price and soon you’ll have that auction house mastery nailed.

For those that subscribe to my site you will have been able to download a copy of the eBook WOW Auction House Mastery from the Members Page.

Ok so your now familar with Auctioneer then let’s continue.

There are many items that you can buy to resell at higher values, some low risk and some high risk.

One of the ways I find that works is to aim at those levelling and create things thats a nice boost to the player buying although don’t forget the crazy pet buyers who will almost always pay the amount you set.

Check out the epic and rare items to see if someone has set a price far too low, it does happen. To give you an example Blade of Misfortune a level 60 blue weapon was on the Auction House for 50g. I bought it put a fiery enchant on it which does not add much damage extra but gives the sword a new look. Put it back on the auction house at 99 gold 99 silver bid and 149 gold 99 silver buyout. A buyout was placed same day hence nearly doubling the profit in terms of what I paid (minus deductions for AH deposit).

The fiery enchant is a beautiful scroll to sell as it can be used on all weapons and is a popular choice for heirlooms and low levellers. So buy weapon vellums, enchant them and sell them. They can sell on most servers for 30 to 50 gold and remember watch for mis-priced scrolls especially if you have no enchanter.

On most servers there is a cloth war and the prices on the auction house just drop and drop over the weekend with everybody trying to compete. Buy as much cloth as you want and make bags. Bags are again a great profit turner on the auction house however don’t overlook the trade channel to sell bags. Again keep an eye out for mis-priced bags.

Whilst we mention the trade channel here’s something for you try, it works with me on average 60% to 70% of the time. Group together:

  • 2 x Netherweave Bag – Bought for between 7g and 20 g
  • 5 x Runic Healing Potion – These prices vary from server to server but if you’ve been questing and doing dungeons you should have a load of these. They vary from 1 gold to 3 gold each on average.
  • 5 x Runic Mana Potion – These prices vary from server to server but if you’ve been questing and doing dungeons you should have a load of these. They vary from 1 gold to 3 gold each on average.
  • 1 x Elixir Potion of whatever sells the best on your server – You may have some drops you’ve kept, if not spend up to 30 gold.
  • 1 x The main item you want to sell

Okay so if we speculate to accumulate then your buying cost should be no more than 100 gold on the items not including your main item for selling. The main item should be something really good from things like rare weapons, epic armor or even the high level scrolls.
If you can make the item so much the better but if you have to buy it then don’t worry, just make sure you get a good price as you going to be marking up when it comes to selling it.

Now comes the sale, between 5pm and 7pm Monday to Friday server time is believed to be when most raids start and can be a busy time for people wanting to part with their WOW gold in readyness for their raid. Although only some items may appeal for their raid in our list if you chose the main item right then players will may buy it for their alts. In the trade channel have a bit of fun and say “the Goodies Man (or Woman) is now in the city and for all you buyers my prices will take pity”; this is just to bring a smile to gamers faces and to get you noticed. Then advertise your box of goodies. In setting the price of your main item make sure you can add at least 75 gold to it. Then advertise like this:

“Buy XXXXXX at XXXX gold (this is your main item) and get 100 gold worth of great items for 50 gold.”

Now what will happen is one of three things:

  1. A player will buy your main item and spend 50 gold for the bargained items
  2. A player will just buy your main item
  3. Nothing

Work your chat sales skills by having fun with it. Use game lore for phrases and ignore any idiots that mock you because you will sell.

After you done the 5pm to 7pm Monday to Friday slot try other times of the day as different servers will vary. If you feel you need to then change the items that make up the teasers again based on your server, however I’ve found those listed above worked best on two different servers.

There are many who write that speculate to accumulate styles is a boring one trick pony, however like I said make a bit of fun out of it, for example I use my bank alt who looks like a Pimp and talk like i’ve swallowed the entire book collection of William Shakespeare.

The main thing is to try different styles and do what suits you best and you’ll sell then easily turn 1000 gold into 2000 gold.

Good Luck and Happy Gold Returns!!!

I like the idea of combining items to make packs to sell in the trade channel.
